It was 7:03 a.m., December 30.
"Long live Spain! Death to traitors," shouted the troops but the words
choked in their throats. Behind them were other troops ready to shoot them
if they disobeyed. One soldier defied the order and did not fire his gun. He
was court martialed, and paid for his defiance with his own life.
There will be other December 30s but this one will be different from all.
This one rendered the Luneta (Rizal Park) as our national hallowed grounds.
